Old Shorts
When I set out to create a second drawing for this series I did not realise what I was actually doing was creating a self-portrait of sorts. It was while I was sifting through some old photographs to create the (about) page for this website that I realised I have literally been wearing the same clothes for decades. I’m not exaggerating. There are photographs of me at 14 years old wearing the same style shorts, t-shirts and flannel over-shirts that I do today. It seems this is just who I am. So, I got to work, this time in charcoal, and created a drawing of a pair of shorts that are not much longer of this world. The material is starting to reach the point where patching them is not going to be possible. It will be a sad day when they get used as rags to clean my paint brushes, but a happy and exciting day as well. Happy because I know there was a lot of life lived in these shorts, and exciting because now I get to break in a new pair.
The original 1060x1750mm charcoal on paper drawing is available.
Smaller prints created from a high-resolution scan of the image are available to order.
